Projects

I generally work on a number of projects simultaneously, covering a range of topics.

Below is a list of topics that I will be referring to in upcoming posts. Each project will account for up to six posts; it may be more, depending on the topic itself. I am learning as I go here, but in future I hope to link to the relevant posts in the list below.

  1. A textual analysis of The Great Gatsby and ‘The Glory’. This is presented in a series of posts: an introduction, and five detailed examinations of sets of characters. The working title for this project is The Glory of Gatsby.
  2. Poetry. Original poems selected from ones I have written over my lifetime.
  3. Response to Oscar Wilde’s Ballad of Reading Gaol. This will take the form of an introductory post which explains the catalyst for this project, my method and general observations; a list of rhyming couplets; and then my poetic response to Wilde’s poem (probably in a set of posts?)
  4. A translation of Bede’s Account of the Conversion of King Edwin, from Old English into Modern English; in a literal form, then a more nuanced version. The original was written in Latin then translated into OE. I haven’t yet worked out how to type the OE script; there are at least three ‘letters’ of Old English that are archaic and thus not found on any keyboard. I will think on’t.
  5. A reading of the Epic of Gilgamesh. Based on Andrew George’s 2019 translation.
  6. An analysis of gender roles in romance novels. This is based on a gender-reversal project I previously completed on a text from the 1980s. It will take the form of an extended piece of writing (probably as a blog post).
